I was relaxing on the front porch of the Corey Guest House earlier this evening and had some thoughts I wanted to share.
If you are not as old as me, you can step off the front porch and literally throw a rock to the Santa Fe Trail. The trail was one of the main arteries for our country’s early settlers making their way west, searching for those wide-open spaces or a better place for their family. On weeknights things usually quiet down fairly early around here. Tonight was one of those nights! I just enjoyed the unusually cool evening and closed my eyes and listened with my mind, something that is very hard to do these days. I could hear the horses and wagons moving down the trail along with voices of happiness and excitement about their travels and the new life they were about to experience. I think it would be hard today to find a group of people so determined and ambitious to achieve their goals in the face of unbelievable obstacles.
Council Grove was very busy in those earlier days. The settlers were on their way to a quieter life. Perhaps that feeling of freedom and no constraints is what you will enjoy here in Council Grove in comparison with where you call home. Like I mentioned, things are very relaxing here compared to the city. We want you to come to Council Grove and relax for a while and enjoy the atmosphere that we have become accustomed to full-time. The early American West History is of great interest to many visitors to Council Grove. Visit the local historic sites and get to know some of the early-day towns people. Most you have probably never heard of but they organized the town and gave it birth. As the generations since have come and gone, life has stayed in this little town and we would be proud to share it with you.
Please come visit us and explore the wonders of Council Grove. We look forward to meeting you.
